Instructional Objectives
  • Describe the types of countermeasures currently being used and investigated by NASA.
  • Design and experiment to determine what types of shielding are effective against radiation.

Initial Presentation Strategy
Demonstrate sample procedure/ overview of shielding.

Discuss nutrition/ antioxidants/free radicals.

Generative Learning Strategy
Design challenge: design a shielding substance that can withstand the effects of radiation while minimizing secondary effects from the collision with matter.

Analyze raw data.

Experiment with antioxidants (blueberries).

Assessment
Present results in lab report/poster format.

Create commercial to inform the public about the value of antioxidants.
