Instructional Objectives
  • Explain three types of cosmic radiation: geomagnetically trapped particles, galactic cosmic rays, and solar particle events.
  • Discuss the protection offered by Earth's atmosphere.
  • Analyze a space weather forecast.
  • Identify short-term and long-term effects of exposure (trips to the Moon, Mars, and Beyond).

Initial Presentation Strategy
Present the concept name, definition, and best example (with a concrete model) for each.

Generative Learning Strategy
Create a chart (graphic organizer) to compare and contrast the 3 types: type, origin, wavelength, characteristics.

Assessment
Write, draw, act out, make a comic strip, or create a song to explain "a day in the life of a cosmically radioactive particle/wave."
